Tomorrow is Memorial Day. Memorial Day is observed on the last Monday of May, honoring the men and women who died while serving in the U.S. armed forces.

Originally known as Decoration Day, it originated in the years following the Civil War and became an official federal holiday in 1971. Many Americans observe Memorial Day by visiting cemeteries or memorials, holding family gatherings and participating in parades.

Please take a moment to remember those who gave their life for their country.

Last Week at Rotary

Last week was a first for our Rotary club.  A new member was introduced and was also our program for the day.  A big welcome to new member Jude Clark, introduced by his sponsor George Cannelos.  Jude had an 11 year career in the Navy as a submariner, and was selected as a Chief Petty Officer, before deciding to leave the Navy for other opportunities.  That led to a long career with the Palo Verde Nuclear Generating Station.  His topic for today's presentation was his naval career, describing nonclassified information about the submarine and included many antecdotes about life as a submariner.  He handed out a schematic of his submarine and told the story of the boat one time submerging with the hatch open, a sailor helping a Lieutenant off the submarine (twice) and antics with visiting midshipmen.  He also voiced his full and enthusiastic support for women in the Navy and the Submarine surface.   Oh, and just so he doesn't get bored, Jude recently was accepted into a Ph D. program!  Welcome to Verrado Rotary Jude. We hope you find this new experience rewarding.
