Mayor Orsborn Provides an UpdateBuckeye Mayor Eric Orsborn spoke to us last week. Here are some highlights of his presentation: - The city expects 2,500 - 2,800 single family housing starts in 2023, a slight decline from 2023. The Mayor attributed the decline inflation and higher mortgage interest rates.
- Terravalis is currently under construction on the west side of Sun Valley Parkway. This project is expected to take over 50 years to be built out with an expected population of 300,000 in 100,000 homes
- Vestar is moving ahead with its development east of Verrado Way, between McDowell Road and Interstate 10. The project will be similar to the Desert Ridge and Tempe Marketplace projects and will include a Safeway, several big box retailers and a Harkins Backlot (similar to Fat Cats). The project is called Verrado Marketplace.
- Sunrise Marketplace is under construction between Sunrise and the Center in Main. It will add a number of interesting eating and gathering places.
- The city is considering asking the voters to approve a general obligation bond next fall. The projects to be funded and amount of the bond is subject to public input via a bond committee, but will likely include a fire station for Victory, various road improvements and other facilities across the city. Stay tuned.
- Buckeye Days are January 26 -28, 2024. This fun event includes a cattle drive down Monroe Street, street vendors and a rodeo.
- The Buckeye Airfair is February 16-18, 2024, at the Buckeye Airport. This year will include a night time air show, afireworks demonstration and a performance by an A-10 Demonstration team. Good stuf
